About Hope 108

Sponsored Children from Haa

Our target

Hope 108's target is to ensure at least 108 students from remote areas of Bhutan are empowered to have the opportunity to optimise their education.

One hundred per cent of every donation benefits each pupil, with no fees taken in the administration process.

School involvement

We work with twelve remote schools, several monasteries and a centre for children with disabilities, throughout Bhutan within Hope 108.

We work closely with the principal and a link teacher at each school, who nominate pupils with a keen attitude to learning from financially disadvantaged families.

The school principal has full monetary responsibility.

Sponsor involvement

The international network of existing sponsors has grown by word of mouth and recommendation.

The donation sum is £108 (GBP 108), or equivalent for overseas sponsors. This is transferred directly to the school Principal via MoneyGram or Western Union. The sponsor is also responsible for the money transfer service fee.

This level of contribution usually lasts at least 12 months and is exclusively for the benefit of the sponsor's named child.

Existing sponsors have pledged to continue sponsoring their pupils until they leave school for employment or university.

This ongoing funding is dependant on the child continuing to fulfil their potential with an ongoing desire to learn.

How sponsorship money is used

When the donation sum is received, the link teacher takes the nominated child shopping for essential items, as required on a case-by-case basis. This may be a school uniform, warm clothing, shoes, school bag, study materials or sports kit.

Involving the child in the choice of items is empowering. The items are bought locally thus benefiting the local economy.

Leftover funds are kept in trust by the school principal for future use.

Purchase receipts and accounts are sent to Dee and Martin for audit purposes.

Feedback to sponsor

There is immediate feedback to the sponsor in the form of pictures of the child with the purchased items, often with a big smile on their face!

Occasional progress updates, including the pupil's academic achievements are sent to the sponsor at relevant times

This may also include timely reminders when sponsorship funds are getting low and require a top-up.

Safeguarding

Communication is encouraged between sponsor and child in the form of pictures and notes, which always go through Dee or Martin to ensure security and safeguarding principles. There is no direct contact between sponsor and child.

Any images of sponsored children are for the sponsor's information only, and must not be shared on any internet or social media platform. This ensures the privacy and security of the child.

All personal information is securely stored and never shared with third parties.
